Libyan Desert Glass Cross Pendant

A beautiful relic of one of Earth's greatest cosmic events.

This striking cross pendant has been handcrafted from genuine Libyan Desert Glass—a rare natural glass created by the unimaginable heat and energy released during a meteorite impact around 26 million years ago.

Although its exact origin remains the subject of scientific debate, Libyan Desert Glass is widely believed to have formed when a meteorite impact generated temperatures so extreme that vast quantities of desert sand were melted into glass. Today it is found scattered across remote regions of Libya and Egypt, where it has lain for millions of years.

Libyan Desert Glass has captivated people for thousands of years. Perhaps its most famous appearance is in the spectacular pectoral discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun, where a beautifully carved scarab of Libyan Desert Glass forms the centrepiece of the ancient jewel.

The pieces used in this pendant are of exceptional quality, displaying the rich golden colour and translucence that collectors prize. Unlike lower-grade material, which can appear dull or milky, these specimens glow beautifully when held to the light.

Over millions of years, relentless desert winds have gently sculpted the surface, producing the smooth natural texture that makes every piece completely unique.

Handcrafted Cross Pendant

This pendant has been individually handcrafted by wrapping two carefully selected pieces of genuine Libyan Desert Glass in sterling silver wire to create a distinctive cross design.

The long, naturally shaped pieces have an appearance reminiscent of ancient worked tools, adding to the pendant's unique character and timeless appeal.

The pendant measures approximately 4cm from top to bottom and is supplied on a 20-inch sterling silver snake chain.
