This extraordinary specimen is a genuine Indochinite tektite, a mysterious natural glass formed during one of the most powerful meteorite impact events in Earth's history.
Found in China, these remarkable black glass specimens were created approximately 788,000 years ago, when an enormous asteroid impact melted terrestrial rocks and blasted molten material high into the atmosphere.
The material cooled and solidified before falling back to Earth, forming the extraordinary natural glass we know today as tektite.

Indochinites belong to the vast Australasian tektite strewn field, one of the largest known impact-glass distributions on Earth.

Although formed from terrestrial material rather than being meteorites themselves, tektites owe their existence to the immense energy released by a cosmic impact.
